Abstract

The study aimed to identify the degree of availability of digital competencies among middle school principals in Makkah City in light of contemporary global experiences, examine statistically significant differences in the level of these competencies according to the variables of educational qualification, digital training courses, and years of service, and propose ways to develop the digital competencies of middle school principals in light of contemporary global experiences. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach. The study population consisted of 175 middle school principals in Makkah City, while the study sample included 120 principals selected using simple random sampling. A questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument, and its validity and reliability were verified using Pearson's correlation coefficient and Cronbach's alpha. The findings revealed that the level of digital competencies among middle school principals was moderate across all dimensions, indicating that the principals possessed an acceptable level of digital competencies; however, this level did not meet the desired standard required to keep pace with digital transformation and contemporary global experiences. The results also showed no statistically significant differences attributable to educational qualification or years of service, whereas statistically significant differences were found with respect to digital training courses, in favor of principals who had completed a greater number of such courses. These findings highlight the need to strengthen specialized digital training programs and benefit from contemporary global experiences in developing the digital competencies of middle school principals, thereby enhancing leadership practices and supporting digital transformation within the school environment.
