The Short Story Between Human Genius and Machine Algorithm: A Reading in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

The world today is witnessing a fundamental transformation in modes of expression and literary creativity due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, which have become capable of producing literary texts, most notably the short story. In this context, this study aims to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the short story in terms of concept, structure, and creativity, by shedding light on how stories are generated through platforms such as ChatGPT, and by analyzing the authenticity and artistic boundaries of such texts.

The research begins by defining artificial intelligence and outlining its key features. It then explores the concept of the short story and its traditional literary characteristics. The study proceeds with a comparison between human and machine intelligence, highlighting their differences in creative and imaginative capacity. A section is devoted to analyzing the nature of stories produced by AI tools, noting the transformations in narrative form and structure that have emerged in this context.

The research further discusses the challenges of literary authorship in the age of AI, questioning the limits of machine creativity and whether such AI-generated stories signify progress or pose a threat to human literary expression.

The study concludes that while artificial intelligence serves as a powerful tool in generating texts, it still lacks the depth, semantic awareness, and cultural resonance that distinguish human creativity. Therefore, the human role in literary production remains indispensable, regardless of how advanced machines become.
