The Project of Translation and Societal Growth: Constraints and Recommendations

Abstract

The present paper provides a reading through the multiple intersections and correlations between holistic societal growth and translation as a project. It aims at emphasizing the aptitude of translation to put in place developmental projects, through that cross-cultural and communicative nurturing that translational exchange allows from one culture and civilization to another. The paper demonstrates the impact of societal growth on translation institutions, namely on their performance within such social project in general. It contributes in determining the constraints which are threatening the project of societal growth through translation. The constraints in question can be external, including the attitude to translation and the approach through which it is defined, the role of censorship, and of logistics. They can also be internal as the relationship of translation with the other domains, generalizing foreign languages acquisition along their impact on translation. By the end of the paper, a set of recommendations which emanate from the analysis of the constraints aforementioned is suggested.
