The Tetouanese community between ethnic and cultural diversity: a study of the phenomenon of popular seasons

Abstract

Our article highlights a fundamental aspect in the study of Tangier's society, which is its diversity and ethnic and cultural multiplicity that has been shaped by several origins: Andalusian, Jewish, Amazigh, and sub-Saharan African. These origins have been manifested throughout history in their traditions, architecture, celebrations, dialects, cuisine, clothing, and more. Based on this, we will attempt to highlight this diversity and its cultural and historical value in our present time by focusing on showcasing those popular seasons that prevailed and were formed with the contribution of different social strata, while emphasizing their heritage dimension as a component in enriching the Mediterranean character of the society, and also their importance in stimulating developmental sectors. We have already searched historical sources and conducted field research to investigate its elements, which has proven that the diversity and richness of this heritage is a cultural wealth manifested in various tangible and intangible aspects. It is the result of cumulative contributions from various social classes and groups in Tetouan. On the other hand, through the themes of this article, we hope to draw the attention of academic researchers to the issues related to the historical heritage of Tetouan. This is important for the preservation of the historical memory of the community and its development in various fields.
