Repository and Self-Archiving Policy

Ibn Khaldoun Journal for Studies and Researches supports authors’ rights to make their scholarly works available and preserve them in digital, institutional, and subject repositories, thereby contributing to open access to scholarly knowledge and increasing the discoverability and impact of published research.

The journal permits authors to deposit copies of their published works and related versions in appropriate repositories, subject to the terms set out in this policy.

1. Authors’ Right to Self-Archive

Authors may deposit copies of their works in:

  • Institutional repositories of their universities or organizations.
  • Subject and disciplinary repositories.
  • National repositories.
  • Personal academic websites.
  • Non-commercial scholarly platforms.
  • Digital repositories operated by academic and research institutions.

No additional permission from the journal is required for depositing versions permitted under this policy.

2. Permitted Versions

The journal permits authors to deposit all versions of their work:

A. Submitted Version

Submitted Version / Preprint

Authors may deposit the version submitted to the journal before or during the peer-review process.

B. Accepted Version

Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM)

Authors may deposit the final version accepted for publication after completion of peer review and revisions, but before the journal’s final typesetting and formatting.

C. Published Version

Published Article / Version of Record (VoR)

Authors may deposit the final published version of the article, including the official PDF issued by the journal.

3. No Embargo

The journal does not impose any embargo period on the deposit of permitted versions in repositories.

Authors may deposit the appropriate version of their work immediately upon its availability or publication, as applicable to the specific version.

This approach is consistent with the best practice recommended by DOAJ regarding self-archiving.

4. Deposit Requirements

When depositing the accepted or published version, authors should retain the essential publication information, including:

  • Author name(s).
  • Article title.
  • Ibn Khaldoun Journal for Studies and Researches.
  • Year of publication.
  • Volume and issue, where applicable.
  • Page numbers, where applicable.
  • DOI.
  • Link to the article’s page on the journal website, where possible.

The deposited version should preferably include the following statement:

Originally published in Ibn Khaldoun Journal for Studies and Researches. DOI: [DOI]

5. Licensing

The published version of an article is subject to the journal’s applicable licensing terms:

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Any use or redistribution of the published version must comply with the terms of this license.

The journal does not impose, through its self-archiving policy, restrictions that conflict with the rights granted by the license or with authors’ rights. DOAJ emphasizes that copyright conditions should not conflict with the terms of the applicable license or the journal’s Open Access policy.

6. Institutional and Subject Repositories

Authors may deposit their articles in any appropriate institutional or subject repository, including repositories operated by universities and research institutions.

The journal does not require repositories to be pre-approved or included in a specific list.

7. Academic Websites and Non-Commercial Platforms

Authors may make the published or accepted version available, as applicable, through:

  • Personal academic websites.
  • University and research institution websites.
  • Academic repositories.
  • Non-commercial scholarly platforms.

The original publication information and DOI must be retained.

8. Preprints

The journal permits authors to deposit a Preprint in an appropriate repository or platform before or during peer review, subject to the journal’s policy concerning prior dissemination.

The deposit of a preprint in a scholarly repository does not, in itself, constitute final publication of the article in the journal.

9. Published Articles

Authors may deposit the final published version (Version of Record) in an institutional or subject repository without an embargo period.

When depositing the published version, authors are encouraged to include the DOI and a permanent link to the article’s page on the journal website.

10. Authors’ Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that depositing their work in any repository or platform does not conflict with:

  • The rights of third parties.
  • The rights of research participants.
  • The rights of owners of third-party materials.
  • The terms of grants or research funding, where applicable.

11. Digital Preservation by the Journal

In addition to authors’ self-archiving rights, the journal works to preserve its published content through its approved long-term digital archiving and preservation systems.

The journal distinguishes between:

Self-Archiving

and

Long-Term Digital Preservation.

Authors’ deposit of an article in a repository does not replace the journal’s responsibility for long-term preservation of its published content. DOAJ considers ongoing deposit in a long-term preservation system a best practice for digital preservation.

12. Policy Updates

The journal periodically reviews its Repository and Self-Archiving Policy to ensure alignment with developments in Open Access scholarly publishing and international best practices.

Any amendments to this policy will be announced on the journal’s official website.
