Copyright and Authors’ Rights Policy

Ibn Khaldoun Journal for Studies and Researches is committed to protecting authors’ intellectual property rights and maintaining a clear and transparent policy regarding copyright and the reuse of published works.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain the full copyright and intellectual property rights to their works published in the journal.

Acceptance and publication of a manuscript in the journal do not constitute a transfer of copyright ownership from the authors to the journal.

2. Right of First Publication

Authors grant Ibn Khaldoun Journal for Studies and Researches the right of first publication of the accepted work, as well as the right to make it available electronically, index it, archive it, and distribute it through relevant scholarly platforms, databases, and repositories.

This right is non-exclusive and does not prevent authors from using or reusing their own work in accordance with the applicable license.

3. License

Accepted articles are published under the:

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Under this license, others may:

  • Access and read the work free of charge.
  • Download the work.
  • Copy the work.
  • Share and redistribute the work.
  • Use and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes.

Provided that they:

  • Properly attribute the work to the author(s).
  • Cite the title of the work.
  • Cite Ibn Khaldoun Journal for Studies and Researches.
  • Provide the original publication details.
  • Include the DOI or permanent link, where available.
  • Indicate any modifications made to the work.

Commercial use of the work is not permitted under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license without obtaining appropriate permission from the rights holder.

4. Authors’ Right to Reuse Their Work

Authors retain the right to reuse their published works, including depositing them in:

  • Institutional repositories.
  • Subject repositories.
  • Personal academic websites.
  • Research platforms.
  • Preprint repositories, where applicable.

The journal does not impose an embargo period on the deposit of the published version, provided that such use complies with the terms of CC BY-NC 4.0 and the rights of third parties.

5. Deposit and Archiving

Authors may deposit copies of their works in scholarly and institutional repositories, including the accepted manuscript and the published version, while retaining the original publication information and citing the journal and DOI.

The journal also retains the right to archive published articles and make them available through its approved digital preservation and archiving systems.

6. Third-Party Rights

Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to use any materials owned by third parties, including:

  • Images.
  • Tables.
  • Figures.
  • Maps.
  • Texts.
  • Data.
  • Copyright-protected materials.

Authors must clearly acknowledge the sources of such materials and comply with the applicable terms of use.

7. Responsibility for Content

Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • The originality of their research.
  • The accuracy of information and data.
  • The validity of the findings.
  • The accuracy of citations and references.
  • Respect for intellectual property rights.
  • Compliance with research ethics.

The journal assumes no responsibility for any infringement of intellectual property rights resulting from content submitted by authors.

8. Post-Publication Corrections and Retractions

The journal reserves the right to issue corrections, clarifications, or retractions when substantial errors or violations of publication ethics are identified, in accordance with the journal’s Corrections and Retractions Policy.

Such actions do not affect the authors’ original rights except to the extent required by the correction or retraction process.

9. Rights of the Journal

The journal has the right to:

  • Publish accepted articles.
  • Make them available electronically.
  • Assign DOIs.
  • Archive them.
  • Index them.
  • Include them in scholarly databases and discovery services.
  • Distribute their metadata.
  • Preserve copies through digital archiving systems.

These rights shall be exercised in a manner that does not conflict with the authors’ rights or the terms of the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.

10. Users’ Rights

Users may access, read, download, share, and reuse published articles in accordance with the terms of the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.

In all cases of reuse, users must provide proper attribution and retain the work’s bibliographic information and acknowledge the original source.

11. Previously Published Works

Authors must disclose any previous version of the manuscript or any related prior publication, including preprints or repository deposits.

The Editorial Board will determine whether such prior dissemination is compatible with the journal’s publication policy and ethical standards before accepting the manuscript.

12. Conflicting Rights Provisions

In the event of any inconsistency between this policy and any other provision contained in the journal’s Author Guidelines or other journal pages, the officially published Copyright and Authors’ Rights Policy shall prevail, unless a specific and publicly disclosed legal agreement provides otherwise.
